Seth Harwood: Transforming Writers Through Personalized Coaching
Are you tired of revising the same pages over and over, unsure if you’re making real progress? As a professional writing coach with over fifteen years of experience, I help writers move beyond frustration to create compelling, publishable work.
Why Writers Choose My Coaching
My approach combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of the writer’s journey. Unlike general workshops or critique groups, I focus on what your specific manuscript needs right now.
When we work together, you’ll:
- Learn to identify what’s working and what isn’t in your own writing
- Master the crucial distinction between showing and telling
- Develop a sustainable writing practice tailored to your life
- Gain confidence in your creative decisions
- Complete your manuscript without getting stuck in endless revision
My Coaching Philosophy
I believe in meeting writers where they are. Whether you’re struggling with your first chapter or polishing a complete manuscript, I provide the right balance of encouragement and honest feedback. My goal isn’t just to improve your current project—it’s to give you skills that will strengthen everything you write.
Writers often tell me they’ve learned more in three sessions with me than in years of workshops or creative writing classes. That’s because I don’t offer generic advice—I help you see your blind spots while building on your unique strengths.

How We’ll Work Together
Our collaboration begins with understanding your goals and analyzing your work. From there, I create a personalized development plan that might include:
- One-on-one Zoom sessions to discuss your pages in depth
- Structured feedback on your writing with specific revision strategies
- Targeted craft lessons addressing your manuscript’s particular needs
- A writer’s log system to track progress and maintain momentum
- Access to supplemental resources and courses
I won’t waste your time with vague encouragement or crushing criticism. Instead, I’ll help you understand exactly why certain techniques work and others don’t, always with the goal of bringing your vision to life on the page.

For serious novelists ready to finish a polished, agent-ready manuscript.
You’ve been working on this book. You know what it needs. What’s missing is someone who can see what you can’t see — and stay with you until it’s done.
This is intensive, personalized coaching built around one goal: getting your manuscript to the level where readers, agents, and editors can’t put it down.
The support you need — page feedback, live sessions, and email between calls so you’re never stuck for long.
What you get:
✓ Three sessions per month — organized around your needs and momentum.
✓ Page review before every session — I read your work and we discuss in detail during our sessions.
✓ Full email support between sessions.
✓ Publishing guidance when you’re ready — query letters, agent targeting, market strategy.
✓ One pause available — for two to four weeks.
This is for you if:
You have a manuscript in progress and you’re ready to finish it.
You want someone who can see the patterns in your writing you can’t.
You’re done spinning your wheels and ready to move forward.
That’s only one example of what it’s like to work with Seth. The online Writing Log that he set up for me is another huge help. I can enter my daily progress, ask specific questions about craft or request advice on a particular problem. Seth quickly queries in the log so by the time you meet for your regular online session you are both on the same page.
So if you’re looking for the best in-depth writing guidance from a published pro plus a coach that is always on your team with ongoing encouragement and support look no further. Seth Harwood is your man.

Unfortunately, I had so little writing experience that even the two-year program was not enough to get me writing consistently and effectively.
Being overly perfectionistic, I lacked reasonable goals and forward momentum, opting instead to polish and re-polish my first chapter or two.
I enrolled in Seth’s course as part of my certificate program, loved it, and when Seth announced that he was going into the coaching business, I leapt at the opportunity to learn from him one-0n-one.
Part of me worried that a coach would either tell me what I wanted to hear rather than what I needed to hear, or would scoff at my lousy writing. I had investigated working with a coach previously, and felt discouraged by the response that I received.
The more I worked with Seth, the more I found that I could trust him. His advice got my writing “in shape” in the way I had hoped.
I broke the continuous self-editing habit that was keeping me from building up any forward momentum. Coaching helped a great deal with this: I could say, “Well, I’ll keep going and if I’m way out in left field, Seth will let me know”…and most of the time Seth said, “Just keep going.”
After writing four days a week, thousands of words over the past few months, I feel much more comfortable with the process as it happens, and with the “stuff” that I have created.
Now, I’m more confident in my ability to get what I see in my mind onto the paper, I’m consistent with my writing practice, and I have an emerging ability to edit my own work.
Seth has mastered the balance between being fair-minded and analytical, and being positive and supportive. He kept me on-task, and at the same time taught me how to keep myself on task.

Then I found Seth. We started working on the craft level, writing great sentences and paragraphs, studying other works for clues, then doing several short exercises to drive the lessons home. On my own pieces, Seth provided encouragement and compassionately constructive criticism, while helping me see what the next steps could be if I was stuck. I also joined Seth’s writing workshops which sharpened my editorial eye and provided crucial encouragement and feedback when submitting my own pieces.
But the really important thing here is the process. Building a process that can support your creativity while life swirls around you. After all, we aren’t the first writers who’ve struggled with the myriad roadblocks to great writing, but it’s also true that many of us can’t possibly work into the early hours, or wake up before dawn to write 2000 words before work. Having a coach who has been there, who can bring in wisdom from experience and education, who can work with you to create a personalized process that fits in your life – that’s the real gold. It may seem pricey but it’s far, far cheaper than an MFA or any other program, and you get far more personalized support, too.
